I thought I’d post a little more about the dress we found last weekend and include a plug for a WONDERFUL charity!
Back in March when Rod and I first got engaged I found an article about a truck full of bridal gowns that had been stolen. These stolen gowns were on their way to the next “Brides Against Breast Cancer” event and I wanted to know more! Brides Against Breast Cancer is a foundation that takes the proceeds from wedding dress sales and uses them towards making dreams come true for women with breast cancer and the other proceeds go to research. What’s unique about this sale is that not only can women donate new and used bridal gowns, the designers also donate new dresses which may be one of a kind! They also have veils, tiaras, shoes and jewelry.
I found the website listing different dates and luckily I saw that in August the sale was going to be in Lousiville and in Lexington! The Louisville sale was right about the time when I was planning to start my search for the perfect dress. It also took the pressure off of not having to start searching for a wedding dress until after this sale. I would much rather the proceeds from something as huge as a wedding dress purchase go to Breast Cancer research and those who are affected by Breast Cancer than just going to a bridal store!
Fast forward to August, we woke up bright and early on August 18th and drove down to the Holiday Inn in Louisville. After trying on dress after dress (and finding the world’s ugliest dress) I tried on a beautiful cream colored Maggie Sottero that was brand new and donated by the designer. It’s strapless with a corset back, so it’s really flattering on my body style. It was the first dress that I put on and as soon as I took it off I wanted to put it right back on! I tried on a few more gowns and when I put the Maggie Sottero gown back on I started crying (and so did my mom!). We found the most perfect veil to match in a lovely cream color with rhinestones scattered throughout. It’s the perfect length and is the perfect style for the hairstyles that I’m looking to try for that day. After purchasing both at the sale I’d highly recommend going to a Brides Against Breast Cancer dress sale for anyone who wants to support charity with one of their most important wedding purchases!
It’s so great to have the dress already here and needing very little alterations. It’s a great weight off my shoulders knowing that all I have to find for my attire for that weekend is a rehearsal dinner dress, my undergarments and my jewelry for that day!
