A few of my friends all share birthdays within a week of each other in the month of May. My birthday is May 13, Danny’s is May 18 and Mike’s is May 20. Thus the birthday trifecta was born. This weekend we decided to put together a cookout for the trifecta, but Danny was in Wisconsin. Luckily, Zane’s birthday is also on May 18! It looks like we’ll be doing a birthday quadfecta next year.
For our cookout, Nate and Dave were both able to make it into town. We went out for drinks at dinner at the new J. Gumbo’s downtown with Chris, Claire and Brian. It’s no Yats, but the food is definitely a step up from the old BadaBoomz (RIP breaded tenderloin). The beer menu is still the same great menu it was previously and Nate discovered the wonders of Brugge Black. We ended up spending some quality time at Lockerbie Pub before heading home.
On Saturday Dave made us some breakfast and we picked up the rest of the items we needed for the cookout. We put transferred the Chile Beer to the secondary and added the frozen peppers.

Action shot of chile insertion.
People started showing up around five and we had a pretty decent turnout overall. We easily filled all of our seats out back and had more than enough food. Mike and Gina were generous enough to bring a lot of good beer to share with everyone and we opened up one of our pizza beers. I cooked up some bacon burgers, hamburgers and brats boiled in Dirty Helen. My apologies to everyone for slightly undercooking the bacon burgers! The brats were quite tasty, though! We went through a ton of beer and people continued showing up throughout the night.

Beer pong!

I have no idea what is going on here but Jess and I look oddly disinterested.

Dave ate a fly, don’t ask.
At the very end of the night Mike, Dani, Lindsay, Dave, Nate, John and I headed out to MacNivens for one last drink. We walked back from Mass Ave afterwards and found that the walk from our place to downtown really isn’t too bad. Looks like we’ll be doing that a bit more this summer!
Nate and Dave both had to leave pretty early on Sunday and Jess and I spent most of the day relaxing and cleaning up. It was a great weekend and it was great to have a group of our friends to share our first spring cookout with! Thanks to everyone who came out and shared the day with us!
